Original Story, October 5:Capcom’s Street Fighter V is finally getting an arcade mode, according to an apparently premature product listing on Amazon. That same listing suggests its release date.
Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition has been announced by Capcom after retail outlets revealed the game earlier than planned.
Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition, is an updated version of the original game, and will be released exclusively on PC and PS4 on January 16.
Per Capcom, it will contain everything from the original release along with new gameplay content including Arcade Mode, Extra Battle Mode, new V-Trigger moves, Gallery, a completely redesigned User Interface and more.
Current Street Fighter 5 players will receive all new content for free when an in-game update becomes available upon Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition’s release.
In North America and Europe, the new version will be available physically and digitally on PlayStation 4 and as a digital download on PC for $39.99, or the regional equivalent.
In addition to the Street Fighter 5 main game, Arcade Edition will feature the following content:
- Arcade Mode
- Extra Battle Mode
- New V-trigger moves
- Gallery
- New User Interface
- Season 1 DLC characters
- Season 2 DLC characters
Season 1 and Season 2 DLC characters are only available to current Street Fight 5 players using Fight Money or by being purchased with in-game currency. However, those who purchase the Arcade Edition can redeem the DLC character content through a download code token.
Arcade Mode, as outed by the Amazon listing, features six different paths where players can compete in matches against CPU opponents to reveal unique endings based on player performance.
Extra Battle Mode is a series of time exclusive challenges, and players can use Fight Money for the chance to receive an exclusive premium outfit each month. Complete all four monthly challenges and a special premium costume exclusive to this mode will be handed to the player.
Extra challenges will be added and more unannounced content will be made available at a later date. Players can expect content updates on regular basis throughout 2018 and beyond. More details on the new modes and the updated User Interface will be shared at a later date.
Finally, current players of Street Fighter 5 and those who purchase Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition will be “placed into the same player pool,” with PS4 and PC cross-platform play continuing.
Season 2 of the 2017 Character Pass and DLC content for Street Fighter 5 will continue until the end of the year, with one final character still to be announced and released along with additional costumes.
The original story follows.

There is going to be an Arcade Edition of Street Fighter 5, because all these retail listings can’t be wrong.
A listing for Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition was spotted earlier today on Amazon US for PlayStation 4. This is not the first time we’re hearing about it, either.

A couple of weeks ago, the same version was briefly available on the website of a reputable retailer in the UK. While that listing didn’t bring any new information about what’s actually in the Arcade Edition, today’s Amazon page thankfully has.
In thew new Arcade Mode, players can “hoose from six different paths themed after classic Street Fighter games,” the mode’s description reads. Playing this mode lets you unlock “hundreds” of illustrations.
Extra battle is another new distraction that tasks players with completing timed challenges and win exclusive costumes.
The biggest news here is that the Arcade Edition is bringing new V-triggers for all characters, upping the number of available V-triggers two for each one. This is a major upgrade, and it’ll no doubt change how the game is played when you can pick between different V-triggers. Finally, the Arcade Edition brings with it a UI redesign with “exciting pre-and-post-fight effects.”
The Amazon page lists a January 16, 2018 release date, though it could just be a placeholder. The Amazon listing also states that Street Fighter 5’s user base won’t be split – it’ll remain cross platform between PS4 and PC, and all existing owners will get an update to bring everyone under the new Arcade Edition umbrella. At the same time, Capcom can enjoy a new soft launch for the new retail version.
This is something fans of the series actually asked for, after Capcom botched the game’s initial launch. Unlike the many Street Fighter 4 editions, this does not split the community and offers Capcom a fresh start, a win-win.

That Amazon leak wasn’t wrong, as Capcom have announced that Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be hitting both PlayStation 4 and PC on January 16, 2018. The biggest change seems to be the addition of new V-Triggers, giving all characters two of the special moves. Extra Battle Mode, a gallery, and a redesigned UI filling out the new content, but perhaps the biggest feature is the oft-requested Arcade Mode.
That content will all be coming in the free update, but the Arcade Edition will also include all 28 characters, including the 12 made available in seasons one and two as DLC.
The new package will be available for $39.99.
Arcade Edition looks to be a solid package, and it’s likely the one Capcom fighting fans have been waiting for. The game’s initial release drew quite a bit of criticism for its limited content, and though Street Fighter remains the premier title in most major fighting game tournaments, the first release failed to catch on with a wider audience.

“We understand that the beginning of this journey wasn’t ideal,” says executive producer Yoshinori Ono in an adorable message to the game’s fans. But it seems that nearly two years after release, Street Fighter V will at last be the game it should be. (Hey, we were told years ago not to expect the game until 2018.)

More specifically, the listing is for a new ‘Arcade Edition’ of the fighting game, but it makes clear that owners of the vanilla edition will also get access to arcade mode and, indeed, all future content:
“The initial Street Fighter V purchase is still the only one that consumers need to make to ensure they always have the most up-to-date version of the title.”

According to the Amazon listing, Street Fighter V’s arcade mode will let players choose between six different paths, each themed after a classic Street Fighter title. Progress through arcade mode will also unlock “hundreds of illustrations.”
Other features in the arcade edition – all of which are presumably coming to vanilla as well – include new V-triggers for a total of two per character, an overhauled UI, and an extra battle mode in which you’ll complete timed challenges to obtain exclusive costumes. All arcade and vanilla players will also be placed into the same pool, and cross-play between PC and PlayStation 4 will continue.
